Hi

I have a Stihl ms251 imported from USA to UK about 10 years ago and only used a few times  a year to cut up firewood.  The past few years I ran it on Stihl premix fuel.

It has been into the repair shop a few times as it never runs very well or dies out in the cut.  It has just had a new carb kit fitted as i was spending more time trying to keep it running that actually cutting wood but it still wont run never mind trying to cut anything.

Anyone had any issues trying to run an imported saw?  is there a computability issue with fuel and engines?

Thanks

It might very much depend on how long it has been run on pump fuel before you swithed to alkylate fuel . It may be that the alkylate fuel is now showing up the degradation to the rubber components that the pump fuel has caused .

Has it got a CAT?

Sorry I'm not technical do you mean a catalytic converter.  Don't think so but how would I find out?

My local stihl shop said it will never work properly as US engines don't work on UK fuel.

The I struggle to remember a time when it has run with spluttering or snagging.  I started using alkaline fuel about 2 years ago.  I spent £180 in the last year trying to get it working.  Should I give up and get a new one?

Yes on the CAT, they tend to sap power and make cold running an issue. The last bit about US machines on UK fuel is BS BTW.
