HI,

I am looking at ways to possibly increase the power of my 460. After using 500i's elsewhere I can't help it feeling slow now. It is however an excellent saw in terms of reliability and idling. It never stalls when hanging from a harness etc which is lovely.

I have read and seen that a simple boost can be gained from adding a duel port exhaust which seems a straightforward forward thing to do.

I have 2 questions regarding that.

Will the carb need adjusting?

Is it likely to effect the running of the saw, as inn perhaps cut out/stall?

Thanks

i stuck a dual port muffler on my old 460 some years ago, i didn't adjust the carb

made a noticeable difference and sold it with it on, new owner still has it on

no issues at all

Why would you not adjust the carb if the saw needs it ?

You might be missing out on some of the potential performance gain...:)

(And avoid seizing the thing....)

It isn't hard or any sort of magic by the way. I understand there are plenty of videos on that well known video site.

You can't just ask "will it need retuning" as we have no idea where your saw is maxing out to. The very least you can do is to open the H screw out to the limiter but I have found many 460s and 361s over revving as they have loosened up with age and have had to pull the limiter to get it right.

The only way anyone will know is to measure it at max revs and to retune it as and if required.

Anything else is whether you will get away with it or not long term.
