old chestnut cleft fence rails

Recommended Posts

I'm regularly having to replace these  from the post and rail fencing around our fields , and so have cut them up for our woodburner - but being wary of burning treated wood am not sure I can!

Thing is I'm not sure these are actually treated timber?

Can anyone advise?

Thanks

Whilst it is possible someone has treated your fence posts and rails, if they are as you say cleaved Sweet Chestnut it is very unlikely.  The whole point of using Chestnut is that it is naturally durable.

I would say the most important thing is to be sure they are Chestnut.  If you are in any doubt pop a couple of pics on here.
