My nephew sent me this, from Hebden Bridge in Yorkshire, no leaves so no point asking.

Odd looking so someone might recognise it.

Help me look like someone who knows their job please!

You means it’s a dead sycamore or a live one?

Can’t tell.
Look carefully stubby.
The first picture is the ridges left by the bark.
Your photo is the galleries and tunnels of a beetle larvae.
