Black bracket fungus on Ash

Any idea what this is? I assume old Inonotus hispidus. I found smaller crumbly bits at the base that had fallen. 

 

Client wants a fairly robust crown reduction, just wanted to know what the fungus is and whether a reduction would finish the tree off or would be a sensible idea given it is right next to the house.

Looks like an old Shaggy Bracket fruiting body to me. Shaggy Bracket causes white rot, so a good crown reduction may save the tree snapping where the brackets has grown.

Whilst that bracket in that union would worry me ( and it does look like I.hispidus on Ash ) the crown is full foliage and looking healthy , might peel back the turf around root to see if there is any other issues then regular monitoring to follow . K
