Hi all, first post, great to be here :)

I am looking to change career completely from I.T to Arborist/Tree Surgeon (i wish i had made the move sooner!)

I have started looking around for courses and i have found a few long term courses (4-6 weeks) and i was wondering if you more experienced guys could tell me if they are the way to go and if not what would you advise?

I am in the North Devon area so i am also looking for courses close by so i dont need to do Airbnb for the duration.

Kind regards and thanks for the help,

Mark

The nearest guy I know is Terry Banyard, Dorset based, runs courses regularly and one of the best in the business.

Have you done any tree surgery to get experience? The change from IT to tree surgeon is pretty brutal on the body if you are not fit.

Maybe take a one week felling and chainsaw and then do some work, get your strength and fitness up before trying the climbing etc. Lots of people advertising for ground workers so should be possible to get some days if you ring around.

Thanks for the info.

Im pretty fit and have years of experience rock climbing so hopefully that will help.

I understand its a different skill set and different type of climbing and fitness however as i mentioned i am fit and eager to learn so i will take your advice and look for groundwork in my area although i still want to do a course and get the certs (i think i need them anyway so why not).

thanks

@5thelement im finding it particularly difficult to find any website related to Terry Banyard and courses he runs, do you happen to have any links?

thanks

I am out at the minute, you could contact him on Instagram, he is listed as T4rry

As Steve has posted, Roland Heming is in your area, I don’t know him but he has a good reputation and his own training site with digs.
