It's for a valuation for probate, so essentially it's a market estimate of the value of the standing timber. As high as possible!! 😉

FFS you have thoughts with you, i am dealing with something very simulare to this at the moment and its a bloody big headache, We have a farm house attached barn and a fair chunk of land, i just hope yours is a bit easier than what i am dealing with, we have no Will, the house has not been lived in for seven years and its just been a nightmare so far, surley for the probate value lower the better ? and what you do need to remember the valuation is at of the day of passing, so if its in the current climate we have now timber prices are high as compared to 18 months ago, i hope you get it sorted and good luck with it,

Yes i can imagine that at present, its taken near on 12 month to sort the inheritance tax side out, so now waiting for reply from HMRC then probate can be applied for, the solicetor we have says she can get probate rushed through in about 3-4 wks ? i some how dont believe this as every thing seems to take her half a life time to do, and as i said to another family member our solicetor is about as much use as a windscreen wiper on a submarine 😂😂😂

Having to deal with 2 seperate estates at the moment aunt and an uncle I would expect you would have to get some one with some profesional valuation qualifications. With my uncles estate which has some agricultural element  the solicitor had to appoint a valuer which was w t parkers chesterfield I have dealt with Mr Foster many times and he is an old school gent very nice to deal with. There is also the firm which does the timber auctions at york I think they are part of stephensons who run york livestock centre. One thing for certain dont expect it beingsorted anytime soon my aunts estate which was quite straight forward few shares some money in the bank etc no property to deal with is still not sorted and she passed away feb 2020.
