Unfortunately,  if you want to buy a Tier 5 diesel, in a sub 750kg unit, it will not be quite as good as its predecessor.  Close, but not quite......

Accept that they are here to stay and designed to be better for the environment.  Adjust you prices slightly to accommodate a slightly slower process and get on with your life.

It will take time to adjust, but, you will, as will everyone else in time who has a similar unit!

We don’t want disappointment Pete, we don’t want to have to accept mediocrity, we don’t want to adjust, we want performance, we want improvement and to be buzzing at the sight of wood/brash disappearing at a pleasing speed.

I’ve commented on another thread about the newer diesel Vs the older version in a 230 tracked. Firm I work for has an older Diesel engine machine, this went for a service and a newer tier 5 dropped off for loan. Had a job reducing a Connie hedge, nothing crazy just 3 - 4 inch diameter but with two climbers up. Chipper and groundie was right on top of the job and IMO the newer machine wasn’t as effective as the older version. For me the anti stress appeared to kick in quicker and struggled to continually process what one groundie could throw at it. The three of us on site all agreed the newer machine was a bit of a bottle neck on the job. However as PeteB says they are here to stay as we’ve got to adapt to them. In real times it probably put 20 - 30 minutes in the job, not much you can do about that. People have been saying about modifying the engines but I’d be reluctant to do so as this may invalid the warranty. Having had choppers covered and worked on under warranty I’m not sure I’d want to weigh out £20k on a machine with the possibility that the warranty may not stack up. Couple of options, you could try and find a well looked after older engine machine or go bigger, ie over 750kgs

Bigger diesels with DPF etc require good quality fuel, quality service items and intervals by the book. Which some people struggle with.

I get what you are saying Mick, and do agree. But we can only fit what is available and suits the package.

Whilst on the subject, the new GreenMech EVO 165 26hp diesel will out perform the old GreenMech Arb 150 34hp. But the Evo diesel isn't 750kg. The flywheel is over twice the weight compared to Arb 150.

If you want high performance diesel your best bet is to do your towing ticket. If you want 750kg and diesel you have to be prepared its going to be a little slower now.
