Ash wood- what can be done with it?

Firewood
Branch logging
Wood chip

Or...
Mill it !!!
Becomes many times more valuable!
Then can be dried fairly quickly.
Then it’s even more valuable!!!
And desirable.
Firewood and chip should be your last resort!

Definitely worth milling and plenty of small sawmills that would @Rough Hewn, but they tend not to want lorry loads which is what a lot of the die-back work is generating. We had some millable stuff from one job, several people said interested but never followed up over the next few weeks so went with a firewood load in days.

The guys we regularly work with know that we and others can fell to order for the occasional requests they get.

 

I'm sure that if it was to feature on a couple of 'Grand Designs' the demand would go through the roof like larch and cedar cladding 😃

I am sure you are right there, if it got featured on Grand Designs, it seems a shame that such a potentially versatile wood is just going for fire wood.

Trouble is with this ash dieback there is so much being cut down.

Think of ash like elm.
In a few years time they’ll be gone.
Ash will become a rare and valuable timber.
Mill it, stack it in dry barns and wait.

Have a search for hurley sticks on here, not suitable for everyone but a possible use.
