Roof mounted crane tyres crossply or radial ???

Hello ,I'm after some advice on replacement tyres for a valtra 6400 with a botex 560tl roof mounted crane .

Talked to a couple of suppliers and had conflicting opinions, I was under the impression that crossply was better due to the loading on the sidewalls and better resistance to damage, but I have also been told about a 14 ply radial tyre that has a higher load rating.......now confused !!

Any ideas ?

Radials are much nicer on the road and they have better traction too, however cross plys are much tougher, especially in the side walls. It depends where you are using it, in domestic arb I’d go radials, but for forestry and site work crossplys.

Thanks Tom, i currently have a worn out set of crossplys , i used to mostly do firewood thinning on local estates but after a change in business direction i find myself doing a combination of arb clearance, small tree/scrub clearance and winching ,which in turn means a lot more road travel. So perhaps as you suggested radials would be better, having not run on these before i was just concerned about the sidewall flexing at full reach with the roof mount.

Thanks Nick.

I agree and always managed on 8ply xply as the 14ply nokian were too expensive for my limited use.
