Firstly, it's really cr@p this happened to you. There's a lot of plant/vehicle/machinery theft and I wonder who buys it all or where it goes. In relation to the police not coming out I know they stopped doing this a while back but it depends on the situation. If there was cctv or some kind of evidence then they'd send out csi, if there was nothing, then it was a bit pointless sending out a Bobby to look at a space where a car or machine once was! The thinking being their time is better used elsewhere. Problem is when you've been affected by something like this you feel you should see a bobby! Not sure if you got it back or were able to get a replacement but I hope so! Perhaps consider trackers or something in the future?

Near me there was a jcb telehander stolen with tracker it was found 12 miles from were it was stolen by police they then left it for finger prints to be found by forensic, owner was told he couldn't pick it up from were it had been found and by the time forensic got there it had been take again and track left at side of were it had stood.

Would like to know the out come of that one, and I do no he has a new telehander now.

There is a lot of people in this world who get paid a vast amount of money to do a job they cant do BUT they have the right piece of paper that says they can 😂😂

I am not surprised. The insurance company should have sued them for negligence. The police have been totally and utterly useless. In 4 weeks the matter was dealt with by 3 different policemen, all of whom were desk bound and seemed to do nothing but play on their computers. When we had a grinder stolen before it was reported by a member of the public and recovered by the police quickly - amazingly - but it took them 2 weeks to do the forensics and they then charged us £480 storage. We were subsequently told we should have offered to pay a greatly reduced sum, say one day's storage, and if they refused then to lodge a formal complaint. Whether that would work I don't know. All I do know is that I have no confidence in them whatsoever. All they do is issue crime numbers.

Thanks for your comments. Wise words. We have looked into trackers but it seems that unless you pay a lot of money - £300 a year - most of them can be found and thrown away fairly easily. If you want to protect 3 trailers and 4 pieces of equipment it soon becomes uneconomic. CCTV just gives you a video of your stuff being stolen. Their faces are all covered. Fortunately we were insured but even so the difference between the pay out and the replacement of the equipment is huge. Getting second hand trailers has proved impossible. As soon as you ring up some ads you know the seller is dodgy. Never leave equipment on a trailer is the lesson we have learned, no matter how long it takes to load or unload and read your insurance policy very carefully. It is worth it.
