Hi.

No changes yet. Installer said he would put 500mm extension on when he sweeps at 1yr(he’s had personal issues which I understand) We have got on quite well if we open the window.  No carbon monoxide alarms nor smoke in the room.  The last month with warmer weather and winds it’s smoked back several times though, including today.

I am still not sure if the external air kit will reduce or improve efficiency thus I might wait for chimney extension.  That said the external air kit sounds like the way to harmonise the unbalance.

What cowl did you try, a Stainless steel “H” cowl, Ive never known one fail. Ill try and find youtube link to two I have on my house .

They do work but someone needs get up there to sweep the horizontal pipe every year,  I know because I have one above a pellet boiler.

External air kit will improve the pull,   but the cause of the downdrafts which I suspect is a higher building or trees within 80 yards or its on the side of or at the bottom of a steep hill needs identifying.

We usually use Brewer anti down draft cowls.  Eurocowl ones are just as effective.
