The difference between this and the cheaper B or C models is that this will split the point and thin the web- additional hole machine in the top for this function.

 

About a minute to put a near enough factory point on a bust drill once you get the hang of it.

Great, many thanks!  My father was a tool maker by trade (and apprenticeship) and he could (or probably still can) sharpen drills by eye - but I don't have 7 years to learn and he lives too far away to sharpen my drills when I knacker them!  Just need to find some spondoolies now...

Don't be tempted by anything else cheaper. I tried freehand, freehand on CBN wheels (much easier but still hard to repeat easily especially with smaller sizes), a fiendishly complicated jig for a Tormek (reasonable but by God slow and very fiddly to set up) and a 'top of the range' Drill Doctor. That was total wank. You can't hold a 4mm bit in a plastic universal 3-13mm collet, stick it in a plastic holder and expect it to split the point accuractly. Slop like a dick in a top hat, in engineering terms. It also used a diamond wheel, which is totally unsuitable for grinding steel.

 

The Chinky one uses standard E25 series endmill collets, much like the very expensive and well regarded Darex machines.

I know we have been over this, but what's best bench mounted electric sharpener. This is for doing 48" chains that have it metal before any gives me the "man up and do it by hand". I do hand file mostly and happy with it, but doing 4 x 48" chains that have all it metal and having to put them on a double ended bar each time is tedious beyond belief.
 
Killed a went florabest I was given in about 3 chains. Use a dremmel with diamond files but also not actually that quick.

Stihl Usg, or Hos.
Both are brilliantly accurate, but they have discontinued the Hos I believe.
They aren’t cheap, but not silly money either.
A very worthwhile investment for any chainsaw miller.
