Kelly Kettle!

was just wondering if any of you guys use kelly kettles at work and if so how do you get on with them?

Ive got one and its mint!! Cant use it all the time tho, as some people dont like small fires being lit in their gardens

 

I got a jetboil for xmas, which is also awesome, Jetboil for domestic stuff, Kelly kettle for out in the woods Kelly kettles much more fun tho, as you get to have a fire!!!

I got one for my birthday las week, I tried it out down in the yard with some birch bark, It was very impressive how quickly it boiled compared to a camping stove for example. But I don't suppose I'll use it often, just on woodland jobs where there's no client to hassle for a cuppa. Handy tool to have in the car though, especially in weather like this.

got one last week, its very good, dont skimp on the wood. cant use it everywhere though

I love mine, but it's not perfect. It weeps water when cold and would be better with a watertight lid instead of the silly cork on a chain.

I just keep the water in a bottle, Much easier to transport that way

I do the same, but if it didn't leak I wouldn't have to carry the bottle too.

They are very good. I haven't used the gas ring in over 2 years since I got a Kelly. It makes just enough boiling water for a big brew/cuppasoup with enough water left to wash the cup and spoon.

 

I have to say that even as one who considered becoming a professional arsenist, I have had more trouble lighting it than anything else ever. It is a bit of an art form. Any tips?

have you tried keeping a little tin with some dry tinder etc in it? Generallly I havent had too many problems getting it going, even in heavy rain. Cycle inner tubes make a good fire starter, slice them up thinly to make em last! It can be a bit of a faff compared to the instant flame with a gas stove, but it is more fun.
