Making wire netting cages

Do you not attach the wire to the pallet at all? I guess if you were transporting the pallet over rough ground (like my bumpy fields) you could just put a pair of ratchet straps over the top of the logs to form a cross, and use those to keep the netting of stable and in place.

I haven't used this system for quite a few years and can't remember the height of the fencing. I think it was about a mtr.

 

I used to staple the netting to the pallet but stopped doing this after a while.

 

I probably wouldn't recommend transporting these cages full over long distances of bumpy ground. They are more suited to being filled back at base.

No worries.

 

I use fully vented 'mosquito net' bags now. I get at least three years use out of them.

 

Keep in mind that I am running a commercial operation so your needs may well be different to mine.

That's pretty good for the price, isn't it. Do you have any particular favorite vendor/brand, or do you just use anything you can get hold of?

I use 'Bag Supplies'.

 

The fully vented 'mosquito' nets work best I have found.

I thought about weld mesh also

 

Comes in 8f by 4ft panels  are around £15 each

Has anyone thought of using heras fencing to make cages ? you can buy them off of eBay damaged for a few quid ! I used to use vented bags but now use used stock fencing wrapped round pallets as I’ve got loads of it 500+ meters used

So you use the 4 sided mosquito net, rather than the 2 sided?

 

Are they strong? As they do not look it,

Yes, I use the 4 sided mosquito net bags. They seem pretty strong to me.

 

Some of them are on their 4th year now. 

 

I have about 600 in circulation. Of the 200 or so I purchased 4 years ago I have had to dispose of about half a dozen.

 

From my experience you should be pretty confident of getting 3 years use out of them. Potentially significantly longer if you take more care of them than I do!?
