Knocking it over in the autumn before it starts to wither and ideally just in time for the first frosts really knocks it back.

Bruising and crushing and breaking is more effective than clean cutting.

Same here, we have been cutting a lot of glades into the sides of rides through woodlands and all that grows in them now is grass. A lot of these things will give up if you keep mowing them off.

Regular mowing will work fine. Look at roadside verges- full of bracken but no bracken in the 1m strip mowed by the council!

If it can't photosynthesise it can't survive. Even ground elder gives up if you put it under enough pressure.
