I was looking at gritting private areas and the roads that the lorries dont touch, spoke to the local Council, and apparently a couple of years ago someone skidded on a road gritted "privately" and crashed their car. The person who had put the grit down was at fault (allegedly) because it was not the correct mix for a public highway, and he had to pay damages to the car driver. Fair puts you off the community spirit of helping folk out when times are harsh. If people see a road is gritted, they assume its safe to drive at normal road speeds, it seems.

what a world we live in, we only grit privately owned car parks, business centres and office blocks wouldnt touch anything council as they will pass all responsibility onto you the contractor, our clients sign a disclaimer so we are not held liable should someone trip/crash etc but they are covered by there health and safety as they have taken appropriate action to minimise risk of slip and trips, bit of a grey area and you need to be carefull.
