Hi All

Im 34 and i've been a groundsman (CS30/31) now for just over two years. I freelance between several different companies that keep me going, i enjoy this as i get to work with different people and learn different ways of doing the job. Was just wondering would it be worth me getting my own saw and a few other bits and advertising myself to more companies so that i kind of work for myself and turn up with my own kit? If so, what kind of day rate could i charge? (Im getting about £80 a day on average)

you are doing well at £80 a day already :001_smile:

you have to work out how much the extra equipment will cost you to maintain over the year and then divide by number of work days. then add that to the £80.

I'd say if you had your own kit and 2 years experience you'd be fair enough at £100 a day.I'd rather pay a bit more to get someone decent.:001_cool:

What kit would you need though?

If your grounding, you might use a saw a bit, but any company would have a saw for that. Are you goona bring your own rake?

Own PPE of course, but after that there is very little required?

I am not going to upset the apple cart here, but 80quid a day is crap money if you're supplying tools fuel and so on. Of course 2 years experience is not a lot to go on and different people have different aptitudes. A good groundie is worth (IMO) as much as a good climber, and can make all the difference to the job.

You can get a job at Lidls for 10quid/hr, no tools, no overheads. I worked for companies in the past for typical groundie rates, when work runs dry they dont have to pay you, and this must be considered, as does hol/sick pay.
