As it says really , how easy is it to do?? Is it just take a cutting/seed and plant. Is grafting just as easy??

I'm thinking about doing it on a Dawn redwood:001_rolleyes: any one got any info for beginers :001_smile:

I regularly take cuttings from apple trees, which normally have about a fifty percent success rate. My grafting is getting better with practice, but i don't get enough practice. Look out for old gardening books from the 19th century, most of these have detailed instruction on methods of tree cultivation, and which trees you can do what with.

At a guess, you would be able to take cuttings from the dawn redwood, but i would expect that it would have to be done at a particular time of year, and it will either be the soft growth that is less than a year old, or second year wood. Sorry i do not know it will be, and the dawn redwood is no mentioned in either of my old gardening books. I would try one of the gardeners forums, somebody will know. Sorry i can not be of any more help.

I have just read in one of my books that when they found the Dawn redwood in 1941 they grew by seed only to distribute around the world but later found it grew very well from cuttings i hope that is what you wanted to hear:001_smile:
