Hi guys, could do with a quick id on this. I'd normally figure it out myself but im away from home and cant scan my books. Cheers

Might be a common one, but can't really look without photos of underside, what tree was it on?

If it has gills rather than pores, try looking at Gloeophyllum sepiarium. (Conifer mazegill)

Not one I see very often, but oddly enough I did come across one on a car park railing a couple of days ago. Literally parked right on top of it ?

I've only ever seen it on "processed" wood.

 

it appears to be immune to some traditional wood preservatives and so becomes the dominant fungus involved in the decay of "treated" timber.
