Did a deal today swapped half a load of logs for a 2 wheel drive dumper, which i was planning to use as it is.But ive been thinking, bad idea would it be possible to take the bucket off and the ram and by modifying the existing pipework, mount my 10 ton capacity log splitter to it that way ihave a nice neat mobile log splitter.Or would i have to upgrade the pump, the ram on the bucket is huge compared to the log splitter, any how it was just an idea, but it could be a good one,any input would be great cheers and a happy new year to all yours DB:001_rolleyes:

depends on what the flow rate and pressure the pump can produce, it should have double acting hydraulics on the dumper ie power up and power down so technically it should run a splitter fine. i have seen dumpers made into carriers for linkage mounted post knockers and run them with ease so you may be in luck.

You could always disconnect hoses from the ram on the dumper and join them to the splitter to give it a try before getting the gas out!

Sounds a neat idea to me. Presumably ram on the dumper is double acting so basically just a straight swap on hydraulics. May have to put a flow control on if the pump is too fast.....but there again I'm probably way off:001_smile:

I'd have a go anyway!

could you leave the bucket on and mount the splitter so it pushes the split bits into the bucket? or mount the splitter on the back so you still have the dumper?

iv a dumper the same as yours. id wondered about fitting a hycrack on to the drive shaft and taking the axle off but dont know if the engines big enough

You will be able to do this, I have put a 3 point linkage on the back of my thwaites dumper. I can use the bucket at the front of the machine and when i want to use 3 point linkage I lock of the bucket and have a feed for the 3 point linkage. it works very well I use it for fencing and attach a quickfencer to the 3 point linkage and roll out stock netting, I can send you some pictures if this would be of any use to you?
