Greenmech quadchip flywheel balancing

I've been a big fan of the disc blades since I ran a tree outfit in the 80's and 90's. I had two of my three chippers had disc blades and that proved to me that they worked! When the square/double sided blades came along, I still promoted the disc blades and if I was involved with a sale, the demo machine had discs! Cheaper, easier to care for, more forgiving, quieter and as Jase says, not so brutal. I once refused to sell a machine to a respected customer because he wanted flat edged blades! He got converted!

 

I cannot remember the protocol for swapping blades about but I do remember something to do with longer bolts a spacer weights.....

I have just messaged Jimmy , he is on the balancer some of the time but also does flywheel refurbs,  hopefully he will get back to me soon.
With regards to the disc blades , we have always felt that due to the way they cut through the brash , they are kinder on everything in the driveline,  especially the flywheel bearings.
Maybe PeteB can remember these kits that were supplied with Mk1 Quads for customers that wanted to switch from square to round cutters ??

Thanks Pete I’ll stick with the disc blades and go with them longer term they haven’t been a problem over the last few years for the machine.

When the first Quads were introduced with the square cutters , the flywheels were obviously balanced with squares and the extra bolts and spacer weights were supplied , should the owner wish to swap to discs..

Ok I've just heard back from Jimmy (happy)and he has confirmed that all current flywheels for Quads are indeed balanced with disc blades fitted .
When the first Quads were introduced with the square cutters , the flywheels were obviously balanced with squares and the extra bolts and spacer weights were supplied , should the owner wish to swap to discs..

I’ve put the disc blades on and the flywheel is balanced nicely. It was my fault for thinking I could use the square blades as they may be better. I’ll stick with the disc blades especially as I have plenty of them
