The tree is also a serious Health and Safety risk, the dangers posed by the fallen needles of
Chilean Pine/Monkey Puzzle trees - a matter highlighted by Swansea Council, who
subsequently employed an expert, Andy Sherlock, who has over 22 years experience
(Arboricultural Consultant), who "likened the effect of the needles to being pricked by a
hypodermic syringe" and thus who supported felling. ‘Every effort must be made to prevent
children coming into contact with these potentially, equally sharp needles, and warned they
pose a probable risk of serious injury to children.”

Sweep them up.

Sweep them up.

The local authority should make sure there are no Oak trees in their area, they are highly dangerous - the acorn is the perfect size for children to choke on.  Get them all cut down quick before a child dies.  Whilst they are at it they should also make sure any birds are quickly removed as bird faeces can spread all sorts of disease.  Kill all the birds now.

In fact maybe we should ban children from going outside - it is a dangerous place you know.

A 150-year-old monkey puzzle tree is facing the chop after health...

Even the Daily Mail had a pop!

If you read the 11 year old article they seem to be having a go at the council for deciding to remove the tree.

Quote

The council brought in two independent health and safety experts who both advised to give the monkey puzzle the chop, especially since a new school is being opened nearby.

A council spokesman said: ‘Safety experts have said the tree is too much of a risk to children for it to remain.

Nothing's as old as Brexit. I only posted the story because I was looking at the TPO app that the original poster was talking about. He cited Andy Sherlock (Barrells) so I went Googling to find out their context. The Mail article was the first one to pop up. Also on BBC and local rags. Can't find the outcome though!

Did you see that our (not entirely serious) input to that FB post about replacing TPO tree after nature failure have been expunged from online history ?  W︎'s ?

  • 2 months later...

Hi everyone,

I've just recently found out, after complaining for over 6 months.

The council approved a application to fell a TPO - Monkey Puzzle tree, in the front garden of a double fronted property, but refused me to fell a identical TPO Monkey Puzzle tree, in my front garden, single fronted property. 20 seconds walk from my property.

Both applications were completed by the same tree company.

Both did not provide any technical or professional representations.

Both trees in good health (was confirmed.)

He was not even required to plant a replacement tree.

Nobody in the council knows why it was approved.

They have lost the tree officer's report and all the other documents, clearcut maladminstration. First they refused to answer my questions and now they lost all documents, what a coincidence!

So it all makes sense, why the Head of Planning and Building Control made false allegations against me, he was trying to gag me and shut down my enquiry.

Tree Officer report? Refused

Reason(s) it was approved? Refused

Why no replacement was required? Refused

I've reported it to the council's Monitoring Officer.

My appeal is taking place in the next few months, if the inspector makes me plant a replacement tree, and I quote him the above property was not required to plant a replacement tree, he will not take any notice of it, yet the council refused to give me a reason why a replacement tree was not required, they said you will need to talk to the PINS inspector. Which means nobody is accountable, unbelievable.

Regards,

Jack
