Polyporus squamosus

I've only come across it hosting on Beech, Sycamore, Capadocium Maple, Chestnut, Willow, Polar, Ash & Elm, never seen it on Oak, and can not find any reference of it on Oak.

 

Why are you asking David?.

 

I will add Acer campestre, the field maple to that too.

 

Sycamore appears to me as its favourite host, very common on this host.

 

It appears to me, that it particular likes that scenario of coalesence when several limbs are removed in a lift situation, just an observation.

Suprising though as this tree was confirmed? the finder same as verifyer.

not disputing the image added but I will say for me, there are a few points that make this a little dubious as P, squamosus.

 

the undulating fringe, the lack of cap scales, the lack of openness and structure to pore surface

 

see this one of equal size, velum scales CAN be washed off by rain on some fungi but NEVER have i seen it on squamosus. and the pore surface is almost angular on squamosus see third image

 

I think there is little chance of it being anything but squamosus, however it isnt atypical in form, maybe a slightly genetic mutation? variation is common place in fungi, but this is a form most unusual to me and the images added are much more widely characteristic of the species.

 

Though I stand to be corrected and welcome it?
