any of you guys know what a web site costs to get up and running and the monthly costs are these days?

any good service providers you can recomend?

Here is one based in this area that is reliable:

What Bullman mentioned for cost sounds like a nice ballpark to aim for.

If you can get the hang of a site builder, it's worth trying yourself sometimes if you don't want to get too fancy.

Domain registration is 50 something pounds for 2 years. Your ISP may well provide free hosting with your internet package. Your ISP may also provide basic web developement tools that will allow you to put together your own basic web site. Other than that the sky is the limit for what you can pay someone else to design and manage a site for you. Young kids are suprisingly good at this sort of thing and if you know a computer savvy kid you may be able to get up and running for 100 pound using your ISP's facilities. See UK Breeder of High Quality Bearded Dragon Morphs - Hades Dragons UK for a site put together by my amateur son and hosted by our ISP.

You should be able to get a .co.uk domain for MUCH less than £50 - I usually buy mine from uk2.net and have done for years.

For a simple and straightforward website I'd recommend webs.com Basically a case of choosing a template and filling in the blanks, and some of the templates look rather good actually. You can also change the template for the whole website with a couple of clicks without having to re-enter all the information and links etc. Basic is free, but for a few quid you can remove all external advertising etc and make it "just yours"

You may spend a few hours putting the content of your site together, but by the time you've done that you'll know your way around the system - and you can make regular tweaks to it as often as you like without having to go through a third party and ask them to do it for you. Sometimes you'll just look at a paragraph and think it could be worded better - two minutes and it's changed and hasn't cost you a bean.

Hope this helps!

Andy
