Noticed this from last month's tree inspections, pollarded and felled several English Oak North London , in this section. Fine bore holes @1mm dia. Very active and fine dry sawdust.

pinhole oak borer Platypus cylindrus I expect. They do get into the heartwood if the wood stays moist, in the second season. It was almost unheard of pre 1987 but has remained widespread since.

Summer felled / pollarded 500mm+ dbh two yrs ago.. So not holding out much hope. Will turn into bat / raptor habitat poles with a forstner bit n cordless drill when I get round again. K
