Unimog 1700 hard to start in the cold

Sorry to derail a bit, but not being a mog owner, what do mean by starting controls- i take it you dont just get in and turn a key?

 

To start mine, I just press the clutch and turn the key.

 

On older ones you press the clutch, turn the key and press a button.

 

Mine stops when you turn it off at the key, on older ones you lift up the hand throttle to stop them, so have to push it back down to start them.

stick an inline filter in it aswell just after the tank, make it see through so you can catch the water there. unfortunately with the mogs you cant get filters with water drains because they sit in the cast holders. i will get some kerrosine aswell for the chipper

 

If its an older mog Stevie, it will have the little glass jar filter.

 

Its only the newer ones that have a plastic one.

These are standard issue and will bolt onto any motor, all you do is inspect daily and empty when needed.

 

Gives you a visual indication of a problem, if one day it suddenly fills with gunge, you know its drain the tank time

 

nice one dean, that is the cleanest newest diesel tank thingy i have ever seen mate:001_smile:what do you guys suggest then for topping up my tank to winterise it??can i get a certain type of kerosine with a chart to work out how much i put in, i dont want to do any damage

I was always told adding petrol was one way.

 

Have you asked your fuel suppler?? or Alex's ???
