Google ads aren't what they used to be, but still a valuable option.

Facebook, well i've never advertised a tree company on facebook, but most of the business dealings I have had have mostly been time wasters. The easier you make it for people to contact you, the more likely they are to be time wasters it would seem.

Personally (and i'm not just saying that because I make websites), I would always spend a larger chunk of my advertising spend on increasing my web presence.

I went to a free training event from Natwest "How to Use Facebook to Generate Leads." The instructor thought I needed a twitter account and should be regularilly posting.. I was not convinced... They also said paying to boost a post was good..

I tried, you can allegedly target a physical area, age group etc.. Utter rubbish.. My £60 got my post seen by thousands (5 or 6 think). I had about 30 responses, most were, "sorry I pressed by mistake." A few were for services we don't supply and several were in Spanish...

Yep you can quickly blow money on there for sure. I boost the odd post but am not convinced it actually does much good.

Regarding twitter, you realise you can set up facebook so it automatically posts whatever you post there on Twitter also?

Yes, but who would be interested in anything I would want to tweet? and how is that going to increase customers..

I am in a different trade ie firewood but much as above. Facebook just brings in complete timewasters. Last customer, I got from there we are now legally pursuing for payment!  The website just brings in the kind of customer we want. We get lots of hits but few replies but the ones we get say when can you deliver not "what's your best price mate"  Personally I don't even like fancy sites with lots of moving graphics guff. Just keep it plain and to the point with a few nice pics.
