Thanks, Bil.. Unfortunately, he's not got the secondary, AKA Ignition module.

Local guy hasn't heard from Husqvarna, either. I'll prolly have to drag one in from the US.

Part number seems to be the same on the 42-42 specials blue unit and the 288 blue unit ...501-81-28-01 .

Might be possible to track one down instead of a 288.

Thanks. Yeah, I have been simply searching for part # 501-81-28-01

The electronic units are differnt, the 01is for the 242/42 and the 02 is for the 281/288the diffence is due to the diameter of the flywheel.

IPL for 288xp.. coil shows as 02 but the blue second part is the same part number as 42/242.

If iv got it right , its the second blue part that is being looked for ??
