Very little that you can do when they're situated in hard surfaces apart from supplementary watering and even then unless there is existing an underground watering system in place it's difficult to get water to where it's needed.

 

Anti-transpiration chemicals are only really practical on very small trees/new plantings and shrubs.

 

Last summer I did note that in both established trees and new plantings Birch seemed to be particularly susceptible to drought stress. On the plus side they will naturally shed leaves to reduce transpiration and then produce lammas growth later in the summer when conditions are more favourable.

Difficult one- I would open up the pits maybe twice the current area and put a structural soil layer around trees then they will gather run-off water from surrounding paving , if any , through summer. K
