Clean the aluminium transfer off it with some acid before you say it's rough, that should clean up a lot better with some 240 and light oil after the transfer is dissolved.

You need to be careful using the bigger cylinder as the crankcase opening on the early 50 is too small to take the skirt of the bigger cylinder.

Thats a easy one. I wont use acid anymore. 

 

My 3 step plan and 3 is a fresh crosshatching.  Not needed. But I feel it helped in my racesaw rebuild so I do it in work saws now too.

 

Remove with flapper, check by hand with emery clothe.  Crosshatch.  #3 not needed like I said.
