Following recent success with a framed T&G side gate I now need to replace carport doors my late father made some 40 years ago. Each door is approx. 77" x 46" (1955 x 1170) I will need to do a final trim to frame size on site as I will be making them in my workshop which is two counties away.
Anyways my question is please, advice on the best construction style (I am hoping to keep the cost down so will be a softwood) considered a rail and style, then boarded or the inset T&G as on the previous project. Further advice on timber sizes to ensure the door is stable depending on the style would be appreciated.

Mind and put in a diagonal strut/struts to control droop. Should go from lock down to lower hinge for wooden doors, opposite for steels

You need to put diagonal braces in from lock side to bottom hinge as mentioned, you can keep to a ledge and brace style for the garage doors to but use at least 3 hinges for those doors when hung.
