Hi,

Wondered if anyone can give me an idea of the kind of work i can carry out on an oak with a TPO on it, that needs dead wood removed and limbs cutting back, crown raising perhaps, any advice or experience appreciated, what authorities do i need to contact and what qualification do i need to undertake work or do i need a particular specialist subcontractor for it.

Thanks,

Darren.

With out approval from the LA all you can do to that tree is dead wood.

You need to send a application form to the LA that the tree owner pays her council tax to and also check for conservation areas and planning conditions.

Have you got your climbing + aerial use tickets?

Tree officer will normally stipulate that all works should be carried in accordance with BS 3998.......make yourself aware of said document if you not already

As a 2 man team You are ok to dead wood the tree allthough you should have your climbing + arial rescue. and no need to contact the LA any other work Needs to be applied for?

Where abouts in berks are you?

is it the aerial rescue that i need to work as a ground worker for a tree company too as a bona fide subcontractor,

or employee for that matter?

Talk to your local council tree officer, You will need to put in an application to do the work you propose, takes 6-8 weeks to process at no cost.

The deadwood part does not require the paperwork, but you will still need to talk to your tree officer about this.

My advice would be to call in an arborist who will be familliar with the process,& the tree's requirements.

It will be cheaper to have the work done by a pro than to even consider the qualifications you would require(you wont get them at nightschool)!

The insurance costs would be more than the job ,then you have the climbing kit etc!

But basicaly no work can be carried out without making an aplication, other than deadwooding.

Hope this helps.

To get the arial rescue you need the climbing first.

If you sub your self out as a Groundie, no not really but it depends what experiance you have as to what you can charge, if you can work riggin ropes ect or you will just be paid to drag brash!

Even when D wooding we always let the local TO know . So when joe public phones up to complain they are already aware of what works being carried out . We have in the past removed dangerous limbs and taken a photo as evidence of the hazard .
