What a crazy law so you buy a Ifor Williams trailer 3500kg gross a pick it up with say ford mondeo estate and you would be braking the law.

Only for licence laws. ie if you only have a B licence.

For C&U offences as long as the real weight is within limits you are legal.

Looking things up a transit can tow 2100kg so no towing of 3500KG ifor.

As long as

a, you have a BE licence

AND

b, the real weight is under 2100kg

You are legal.

I was towing a trailer beyond the vehicles capacity. That led me to being prosecuted for having an ncorrect driving licence, and because I didn't have a licence my insurance wasn't valid so I got hit for driving without insurance as well.

You are confusing your self and the laws in play.

Did you have a B or a BE licence?

Without a towing licence you can only tow a trailer with a gross weight (which is what it has to be plated at) of 750kg,

WRONG

You can also drive a combination of vehicle and trailer where the total of both MAM & MLPM is 3500kg or less.

That could with say a Mondeo with a MAM of 2000kg allow you to tow a trailer plated to 1500kg.

No you dont to any of them.

That only applied to real plated vehicles like lorries & trailers over 3500kg.

I’ll let you tell EdwardC he went to court and got done for no reason [emoji106]

I would advise anyone reading this thread to ignore most of it as it is wrong.

Based on my mate said or this happened to me but they are mixing the laws up.

Vehicles need a plate showing the maker, the ID number & the weights.

The law does not saw who can make or fit that plate for class 0 & 1 trailers. Only class 2 3 & 4 which have what is known as "plating" done by the ministry class 0 & 1 do not have plating they have a plate.

Different things.

We had to have our horse lorry " plated  " every year as opposed to an MOT .
