I have the BOSE premium concert sound system in my Audi A6 and its pretty awesome. Crystal clear sounds everytime.

However. I can only reccomend NAIM audio for my in House audio orgasm's. All their stuff is the dogs dangly regions. The best sound systems in the world. Period

Naim Audio :: Welcome

Expect to re-mortgage your house to pay for any though. But, I cannot stress how GOOD they are.

Oh and they need to be left turned on at all times to keep all the resistors and such at a certain temperature or summat. They really are un-parraled for home music experience. You dont get Bass or treble controls or graphic equalisers etc, Whatever was recorded in the studio onto the compact disc is replayed back in your living room.

Ah, now you're talking serious kit, as opposed to something just to get up with in the morning or listen to a bit of evening radio. I've still got a shed load of vinyl that I listen to on a seperates system headed up by a Rega Planar 3 deck, Creek amp and Mordaunt Short speakers - all British built. Naim is excellent kit, I agree, but a little out of my budget nowadays.Bet you got a Linn Sondek to go with yer Naim amp - or don't you do vinyl?

Increasingly I find that to get that little bit extra quality you have to spend loads, whereas the jump from crap to decent isn't that great in cash terms.

Thats why I rate the Denon systems so highly, great sound at a reasonable price and a compact package. With a family, its hard to justify the space a seperates system takes up.

Im thinking of buying a Bose system ( a family crimbo present) anyone got one? Are they worth the money? What ive heard so far is they are the dogs bollocks anyone no any different?Bose - Better Sound Through Research:biggrin:

I'v got a Bose ipod dock, i bought it from Currys for around £290 about 18 months ago, like you i did all the research but when i got it home i was dissapointed to discover that the bass was quite deep even when you selected 'bass reducer'. Don't get me wrong if you like you're bass then it's ok but our house has thin walls and i'v already had issues with my neighbours lads music being too loud so in trying to keep the peace this bit of kit does'nt get used to it's full extent. Having said that the sound is good, you can have a play in 'equaliser' and tune the sound to you're liking, also mine is portable so you can charge it on the mains and take it in any room without having to trail leads everywhere. All in all, not bad but not great either.

Steve, do you rate that deck?

I've got a separates system: a Dual 505 turntable, NAD 3020 amp and Kef cantor speakers, all of 1981 vintage (it was the classic entry level system at the time). The next step up would have been a Rega planer deck, but I couldn't stretch that far; I wish I had, because the Dual wasn't much kop, and now it's broken. I haven't heard my vinyl in years. :crying:

Tbh you can go mad with seperates, some stuff is just out of this world price wise, your best of just setting a budget, reading up and finding somewhere that you can listen to the stuff, then you go for cables and then you can be talking silly money for mad cables that can transform the sound completely, dont know what the new Cambridge audio stuff is like but I have an old cambridge amp that I have bi amped with a Nad cd player and celerstion speakers, and that produces good sound, alot of it is in the pairing.

I knew a guy that had a specialist come out to his house stripped everyting out of his listening room apart from the seperates in the centre of the room with a chair and the speakers in the corner, he spent tens of grands but believe me it sounded awesome, it was like the orchestra was in the room, dance music sounded dreadfull on it though, when you get that specialised it goes into hyperspace.

Ha!, I remember that set up well, mine is of the same vintage - only the next level up. Saved up for ages to buy it, nearly went for the 505/3020 combo, but after ages in the demo room plumped for the Rega - and never looked back.

I remember some of my less musically aware mates reactions '' Blimey, how much - and you have to alter the speed by lifting the deck?! ''

Great deck, though a mate who's got a Planar 2 has had difficulty getting hold of a new stylus. Still all going strong, love the 'warm' feel you get from a classic old amp and vinyl. It does sound different and I do prefer it, its just the space issue. Try and track down a second hand half-decent deck - and get spinning, its great.:thumbup:

Spending more than 10k on a hifi is one heck of a justification But it is also one hell of an investment. Naim audio make the best HI-FI kit in the world. FACT. I will post some pics of my system up shortly. Then you can see what a real seperates system is all about. :thumbup1:
