damage from tree tags

i had a close shave today with a tree tag, i was glad it never damaged the chain as i missed it by a whiskers, but when i had a look at the cross section i was a little surprised at what i saw. i never tagged these trees but i know they have been in for approx 2 and a half years

The ones round hear are normally, small alloy oval's or the plastic knock on ones.

That type of tag is crap IMO for the reason you've just shown.

surprisingly its not the jaggy big bit of metal, its the 2 nails that i see that will cause future problems.

It that galvanised ??? I've notice the galv that they put on nail doesn't last very long as it use too. My mate put up some fencing and by the next day they were rusty.

I put up some bat boxes for the council, we used aluminum nails, so some poor bugger don't knacker their chain in 100 years time.

Nasty. All my tags are put on with ally nails. Which reminds me i have ran out i need to get some more:001_smile:
