Question

Posted

Hi,

During the night a branch has fallen from my large oak tree. Does anyone know of any particular cause for this?

I wondered if it could be the lack of water, but i'm not really sure.

Thanks.

What about Wildebeast? I bet they'd do it.

Oh yes, of course! Wildebeest are well-known for hollowing out tree branches from the inside, causing unexpected failure. Silly me, how could I forget?

OK, you got me there. Just as long as Mr. Dunley doesn't live in the Braunton Burrows area of Devon, he should be alright.

Itinerant termites, any of the neighbours been on holiday to Devon ?

It's usually down to gravity causing them to fall, the ones I've seen have failed at the junction with the trunk where the bark has split and water got in.

Is there any situation whereby gravity does not play a part ? That Issac Newton has a lot to answer for !
