Axe and wedge??

Quick question, i have a steel wedge and an aluminium axe, will the axe break/ be damaged if i use the steel wedge? If it does what is the best material for a wedge??

Get a gnarly log drill a 1.5 inch hole through it.
Attach handle of your choice.
