Hi All,

Anyone know if i would need a o licence to use a 7.5T gross tipper?

Use would be hauling cord from the woods, around 3 miles round trip,Agri use i.e collecting silage bales feed ect

and maybe delivery firewood.

If so what would i need to do to get one? The truck is not agri registered just normal road use.

Thanks in advance..

You’d definitely need an O licence.

It’s easy enough to get one. You need to show you have enough money to maintain an LGV, have an arraignment with someone to carry out the maintenance, have a suitable Operating centre and place an advert in a local paper.

If scaffolders can manage I’m sure you’ll be fine.

Basically to let locals know you want to operate goods vehicles from the premises, and give them a chance to object or rise issues about your application.

Thanks for that all clear now...Dont make things easy for honest working folk do they.

It’s really easy in reality. It’s worth applying for another vehicle if you have the room for it. I’m having to re-apply to add another to my O-license.

What vehicle are you looking at?

Dont Laugh...Its a RB44 with tipper body ULW 3 tonne MGW 5.3 Tonne so not a 7.5 tonne, but still carries a o licence i think, would have to say its kept at our farm, well thats where it will end up anyway. No way round it then even if im not carrying any goods?

Because of it’s load capabilities taking it over the 3500kg threshold the O Licence must be applied BUT if your vehicle miraculously weighs under 1525kg unladen then no O Licence is needed.

I can’t think of any truck that is 1.5t and could take well over another 1.5t+

Unfortunately, as yours sits at 3000kg unladen yet has the capacity to reach 5300kg the O Licence is a must have.
