Hi folks, new member here. Just bought a 236 from a local dealer second hand as a cheap saw for logging up smaller stuff in the back garden. I've immediately come across a problem. The chain spins like it's on half throttle even if I've let go of the trigger. As the dealer is shut until Tuesday I thought I'd try here and just see if anyone has any ideas why this is happening?

Cheers guys!

clutch?  is it revving up?

Yes it revs up, chain spins as it should, take the throttle off and the chain keeps going and eventually stops. But if you leave it it'll spin up again without even touching the throttle

If you are not familiar with saws then leave it and take it back to the place you bought it. I should point out..... A dealer will want a saw back "untouched " to put something right .

It's completely untouched! Haven't even opened the casing to look inside. My dad knows about saws but said "I've never seen this issue before" which is concerning lol

As others have said, back to the dealer! The clutch may have partially spun off or it may have a fault with the bearing or clutch/spring - let the supplier sort it or it may invalidate the warranty!

Is the brake stopping it spinning or does putting it on stall the saw ? It will if it's a sticky clutch or the springs are broken
