tyres for unimog

my u900 is badly needing a new set of tires. has anyone got any sugestions as to whats good and bad. it dose a lot of towing / road work and the odd job on the soft stuff.

 

i had wondered about tractor treads but dont want to spend £300 each tyre for them not to last long

 

had also wondered if this type wonld last longer

There pretty rubbish off road, if it wasnt for diff lock we would have been stuck a few times. Although on grass there fine, roads there fine and they dont mark tarmac drives like tractor types might.

David, The one in your picture looks like a Dunlop SPT 9, not a bad tyre if predominantly doing road work and not going on very soft off road, if you are looking for a good off road tyre IMO the Michelin XM47 is about the best V tread but can wear quickly with alot of road work, followed by the Conti AC 70 which is a little harder wearing, with both of these the prices are a little on the expensive side.

 

Give A.C. Price a try they have a large amount of part worn tyres of all tread pattern and price range.

Tom when i first got the mog it had those on the front. seamed an ok tire for road use. did get stuck a few times tho. i think itl probibly be one a MPT type patern that i go for.

 

has anyone any idea how many miles youd get out a set of tractor v treads only doing road work?

both the michelin and the continental look nice tires. have u any idea how much they are.

 

need to try alex see what he's got. i remember on his old web site having loads of s/h tyres listed

 

i also need 2 rims as iv got 22.5 rims on the rear

hi we run continentals on my u1200 and had them 3 years now and are wearin realy well.they were worth every penny. it does alot of road work but u wouldnt av anythin but tractor tyers on it. multipurpus are realy bad soon as u go off road.

I often read that some think mogs a crap off road, the tyres you chose makes all the difference.

 

If you don't have tyres that you can let down, they just end up full of mud and then you have NO grip. If you let the tyres right down the mud falls out as the tyre flexes.

called mcconnechys today about some michelin XM47s lol there £595 + v each but even the cheap tires they have are £380 so id probibly just go with the michelins. im sure there worth the extra money.

 

 

need it sort out 2 rims first. have any of you guys got any spare 11x20s lieing around?
