Squeaking Rollers ST6

Recommended Posts

Hello People, Has a small issue that I'm hoping won't turn in to a big one.

I have noticed a squeaking ever now and then on my ST6 Rollers. I have greased the hell out of them but am concerned that either the grease is not getting to them properly or that maybe I'm just to late.

I have used the chipper today and it has been running flat out and id say about 30% of the time when the rollers are going there is a high pitched squeak.

Any advice on what to do? or is it a case of replacing the bearings, hoping to avoid this as I barely have time to scratch my ass at the moment and have work booked up for the next month or so.

 Thanks in advance.

I have had the mysterious squeak, disappears as inexplicably as it appears, always put it down to a stuck piece.

Have you dropped the little plate underneath the bottom roller to clear out the drop tray?

Hi Mick,

No I haven’t yet. I will do this Wednesday evening when I have a bit of time to do some maintenance. I’ll let you know if that was the issue. It does sound like something rubbing so fingers crossed that’ll solve the issue and stop me worrying about the bearings.
Cheers

Yes they do, and very good it is too (as is GM’s) never hurts to ask other users though.

Intermittent squeaks would be difficult to diagnose over the phone I’d have thought (especially at the weekend)

Just a thought, are you sure the grease pipes haven’t split on their way to the bearings.

You can pump away at the grease bank all you like to no effect.

Happened to mine and eventually I put the nipples directly into the bearing.

i did have a mysterious squeal rather than squeak on my old schliesing which i think the forst is largely based on. not sure if its the same but i narrowed it down to the little rubber star shaped thing that meshes between the end of the rollers on the drive side. i sprayed wd40 on and the squeal went away but it did come back but as knew it was just that i didn't have to worry about it.
