poplars

I'm looking for opinions on felling some large poplars.

Should I top off all the way up to reduce collision fractures when I fell, or fell tree whole.

I've felled many poplars in the past as whole trees and so far have never had any issues with trunks splitting but these are the largest I've encountered. There are 40 at an average DBH of 3ft and feel I should take a bit more care.

Looking for a market. Location surrey.

Anyone interested ,anyone specialise in poplars

thanks

Fell if you have the space. Pulling rope at two thirds height. Ratchet strap around butt if worried about splitting. Bore center , get cuts right leaving good hinge . Use2 wedges , get out of there in good time and allow rope to pull over.

Did some big pops last summer heavy back lean pulled over with forwarder massive hinge no splits. Wouldn’t worry to much about splitting low value timber. Think you will find they only getting chip price as export market dropped off for the last 8-12 months, even so cut them as long as possible up to 40ft or just over in case markets change. I’m
