FR JONES has a very cheap top handle obscure make but has got to be better than a bow saw,but if you have to get a bow saw bahco do some good ones.

As long as you do not hit a stone, soil/dirt or a nail you should get 6 - 8 months out of it

Thats between 5-7 months more than a bow saw blade

Sugoi is a bit on the big side,opt for the gomtaro much handier all round.

thanks everyone for your replies. has given me plenty of food for thought.

looking at the sugoi 420, and the felco loppers( particualy the 200a60 and 210a60), also the silky katana caught my eye but at the prices i've found for it i might as well buy a small ground saw!

I'd go for the sugoi 360 as the 420 is a bit on the big side in my opinion and the felco 210a-60 as they have a curved cutting head which eases cutting and enables bigger stuff to be cut.

sugoi is a good saw and can be sharpened, so i am told. never sharpened one myself though.

The Sugio can be sharpened. I find it's best to use a feather-edge diamond needle file (one of the wee jeweller's ones) because the base of each tooth is very near the base of the next.

buy a good set of felco secateurs, a silky gomatro 300 and a weaver scabbard to hold them both:thumbup: as for the top handle just get a stihl 170 or171 i think new you could get one in the reigon of £180! not so harsh on the wallet but gets the job done
