Mitsubishi canter...6.5 tonne... cpp...??? Help

Hi everyone, i am looking at the 6.5 tonne mitsubishi canter, now i know if you drive vehicles over 7.5 tonnes you need to do cpc training every year. I was wondering if you had to do anything special other than pass the c1 test to drive a 6.5 tonne vehicle.

What are you using the vehicle for? Arb work or deliveries? Surely you are cpc (and tacho) exempt as its not your main job - just incidental.

You will need an operators licence as truck is for commercial use. You will need a driver CPC unless you can demonstrate that you are only carrying tools of the trade. Once you carry produce of trade ie logs, then you need a CPC. I suspect you could be tacho exempt on arb work within a 100km radius of base

Are logs a different thing though? As opposed to hauling timber and woodchip back to the yard.

Carrying stuff from a job to a customer would be within the exemption of material necessary for the job according to the VOSA officer I spoke with, it would be interesting to see it tested in court. Picking logs up from the yard and taking them to a customer wouldn't be unless a forestry or agricultural undertaking.

"IF" driver CPC is applicable, e.g. the person delivering logs using a +3.5t vehicle, the requirement is for 35 hrs over 5 years, i.e. 7 hrs per year...not too onerous (and it includes a range of different courses inc. H&S / first aid.)

I would use it to remove wood chip from sight and then take it back to the yard

I'm not sure if England is different from Scotland , in Scotland you need an operators license to move hedge cuttings .

I saw a hino I wanted to buy ( I think it was 5.5t )

I thought I could drive it as I have 7.5t on my license but I couldn't at least not for work .

are you limited to 1 truck then or can you expand the fleet by applying to DVSA etc?

I don't have a clue , I ended up buying a 3.5t canter .

I should of put more effort in & got the operators license .

My fuel has now doubled due to my new canter being low emissions .
