My splicing attempts

Hi Guys,

Big game coming up.....England Vs the All Blacks.

Back to splicing. I have seen results from independent breaks using different splices on the AP.

The Brummel splice retains the greatest strength 23kN however unmodified it leaves the core exposed at the eye which I am not a fan of.

The correct splice to use for this type of product is the class II or core dependent however for a short length like a prussic it may not be ideal.

The double braid or Class I splice utilizes the strength in the cover as well however is the weaker of the three splices breaking at around 17Kn. A modified version of this with longer tails will improve the strength as the core is slippery.

FYI Unspliced break is 28kN and a knotted prussic could loose as much as 50-70% at the knot.

Cheers for the info ropey:thumbup1:.

I do a class one double braid for the prussiks. If i was to use the rope in a different configuration though i would possibly look into doing a core dependant splice.

Glad its treating you well John:thumbup:

Old Snake is the man to talk to mate.

I know Rich Rule had some issues with splices in AP, so his input would help you as well.

They charge £350 each to respond to a PM, I believe.:001_tt2:

:lol: but the information we give is priceless:001_tongue:.
