Big Oak Down Last Night

A very big oak outside our house came down in the wind last night, thank God no one was hurt and only minimal damage. Going to be busy today.

No snow but very windy.

Surprisingly not so much. It came down about 4:30am
The crown took most of the impact. I heard a crunch looked out the window and saw that it had gone.



It’s not often you walk out of your front door and you’re on site.

Like losing an old friend. Was my favourite tree.

We found one very small dry fb at the base this morning. No dieback in the crown, looked healthy. We removed a slightly smaller oak next to it a couple of months ago with massive fruiting bodies ionnotus dryadus and full of rot.
The added exposure obviously was a factor.
