Might be a good question for another thread. I would have thought with Ivy a large number of birds and other wildlife feed on it so it gets a fair bit of natural fertiliser, but as bird numbers are declining it'll get less? Perhaps attitudes have changed and it's not as frequently removed?

 

As for brambles, I've found deer love them but if you exclude deer they can grow out of control.

 

That's not to say there's not a huge problem with fertiliser and slurry run off.
