I am just wondering what you guys recon is the best setup for a 460? ( it has a dual port muffler)

I have quite a bit of ash that needs milling but do you recon it will cope with a 30'' because the 25'' isn't quite long enough for quite a bit of the timber I have to mill?

What about solid nose bars?

Or is it time to get a 6609_9

460 will be extremely slow. Minimum would be 660 / 395. Rip chains are essential.
Consider that if your timber is only marginally too large just trim some off for the 25" bar to fit. I expect you will only be trimming off what would be wastage any way.

It might cope with a sharp 30” planking ash, avoid the solid nose bar though, they really sap power.

depends how much you have to do to wether it’s time to upgrade?

i guess the stems are max 25”?

id probably find it pretty painful tbh!

How long has the ash been down?
It gets real hard quickly.
A 460 will run a 25" bar on a mill with about 18-20" of cut.
Use a sprocket nose bar.
Get a 661 with 36" bar.

On reflection, if you can push you budget, get an 880.
Much better for milling big timber than a 661.
Your 460 can cross cut with a 30" bar.
Would be a good setup.
