Now I am worried. I've ordered the low pro 48' panther mill for my ms880...?

Probably if you are new to milling go with .404 chain

Milling is great when done right - and you have loads more margin of error with .404 chain IMO

Hmmm reading this not sure what to do now. I’m new to milling and I was running a 066 with the panther 42 mill but dam thing decided to kill itself. So as I heard the 880 was going to be no longer available I upgraded to one as I will need one for the next couple of trees Iv got lined up. Question is will my new 880 be any good for my low pro set up on the 42inch mill?? Or should I buy a new bar and 404 ripping chain??

You'll need a new bar and chain.
It's a different bar mount 660-880.
Personally I use .404 full chisel ripping or granberg ripping chain.
The 48" duromatic bar is inferior to other large bars with nose sprockets.
I'm using GB bars on my big mills now and very impressed so far.
RobD has it all at Chainsawbars.co.uk

Thanks for the advice!

im learning every time I go out. But love doing it and am getting hooked!!!

I thought that would be the case might make sense to buy the bigger mill and bar now then? Save buying two bars and then maybe get my 066 fixed at some point to run the 42 mill!?? I was planning on getting it from robs site. Really good website and he’s happy to help too ?

It's worth getting a bigger bar and mill,
The 660 is actually faster milling under 2' timber.
I run a 56" GB bar on a 60" panther mill, cuts up to 120cm wide.
Personally I'd also recommend using aspen/motomix alkylate petrol.
For many, many reasons.
And yeah Robs a top bloke.

I was looking at the pm 70 mill as Iv got a 1.4m beech trunk to do? and I could still use that to finish up the 900mm trunk I’m currently doing.

dose it make that much of a difference the fuel? I was looking at the stihl motomix but it seems quite expensive in comparison to fuel and 2 stroke!??

You should be making enough $$ not to make it too big a decision as to what fuel you use. If in doubt turn to firewood - milling is tough demanding expensive work - only mill the stuff that gives you real pleasure or cash. My opinion only.

At the moment im doing it for stock for future works. but would love to do it as a side line job. i was just wondering if it makes that much of a difference? the fuel used??

To the timber, no. To the saw, maybe. To your lungs, definitely.
